Hand & Stone is committed to taking a leadership position in instituting and enhancing processes and protocols to ensure the health and safety of our members, guests and employees. We have consulted with experts in occupational medicine, healthcare, infectious disease, massage therapy, and esthetics to ensure we are taking the right measures to ensure safety without sacrificing your relaxation or our employee’s well-being.

This much we are certain, offering massage and facial services to our members and guests will be more critical now than at any other time in our history. COVID-19 isolation and uncertainty have impacted the collective mental health and widespread depression is a genuine global concern. You know that massage therapy can help relieve tension in your muscles and connective tissues, increase blood flow and promote relaxation. What you may not have known, however, is that massage therapy has been found to help relieve the physical symptoms associated with depression and anxiety such as headache, insomnia and widespread muscle pain.

For facial fans, how we feel about ourselves is so important to our mental health and a regular facial not only relieves tension but helps improve physical appearance – when we look better, we feel better.

Spa Cleanliness

Steps for health and safety

Hand & Stone has always been committed to providing a clean and safe environment for you to relax. During the COVID-19 crisis, we reinforced those steps and added additional measures. Cleanliness will continue to be a focus moving forward.

Among the steps we are taking, all Hand & Stone spas will require:

  • Thoroughly wiping down all commonly touched surfaces and tools with approved hospital-grade or EPA-registered disinfectants and cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms and common areas per CDC guidelines.
  • A contact-lite transaction process including digital forms.
  • Requiring all staff members to pass a Spa Sanitation and Illness Prevention course and performing a practical assessment to ensure they follow the strict guidelines we enforce, including proper hand washing.
  • All sheets are single service use.
  • Vaccinated Service Providers are not required to wear masks if permitted by state and local law. Vaccinated Service Providers will wear a mask upon request.

We use the industry's best disinfectants on all hard surfaces throughout the spa and specifically in each treatment room and for our basalt and Himalayan salt stones (the latter of which are naturally antimicrobial).

After each use, our basalt hot stones and marble cold stones, are scrubbed with disinfecting detergent soap and sprayed with Pure Green 24 (an EPA registered, broad spectrum antimicrobial disinfectant and deodorizer) or Decon 30. The hot stone warming units are also thoroughly washed with detergent soap after each use.

We change sheets and face covers after each client and wash at high temperatures with a bleach-based product to minimize the transmission risk, as is recommended by various public health authorities. Face covers also use both flannel and microfiber to offer a double line of protection.

We will also employ an aggressive cleaning schedule for the entire spa. All high touch areas will be thoroughly wiped down with hospital-grade disinfectants

Hand sanitizer will be available at our front counter and in every treatment room for use by both our customers and service providers.

Several Hand & Stone Spas have already installed ozone or other medical grade air filtration systems. We are evaluating these systems for use at all Hand & Stone spas nationwide.

Moving Forward

We anticipate that a new emphasis on “disease control” will become standard practice in all industries.

We have already added a new touch-free process for customer agreements, member and guest payments and forms. We are also working on our new app that will allow you to select upgrades on the spot, will automatically check you in, and will enable you to pay and handle gratuities.

We know that the world will change in many ways in the near future, but one thing that we are certain of is that we will be there for you with the cleanest and safest spas.
